TGIF

Kevin caught a cold midweek so we've been taking it easy and plan to go to the Cinema to see Slumdog Millionaire tonight. Gotta rest up for our weekend! We purchased rail tickets yesterday to travel to Manchester on Saturday. We'll get there around noon and plan to stay thru dinner. Then on Sunday we hope to be able to watch the Superbowl - word on the street is that this will be the first year its televised on basic cable. Crossing our fingers that we'll be able to get it...Kevin even mentioned making his wings!!! The game doesn't come on until 11pm our time - so it will be a late one if we are able to watch it. Go Steelers!

We've been doing quite a bit of research on our future travels & we're trying to settle on a destination for my birthday. Originally it was Paris but after looking up transportation for "Valentines Day" weekend the prices more than doubled. In the running - Greece, Italy & London. We're a little surprised with the cost of travel...we have both always heard how cheap it is to jump around place to place, but what we are seeing is a bit more than what we would consider cheap. There are some good deals but they are for the person that is traveling mid-week. We still have to wait for the weekends to do our traveling. We might have to try & save our bigger trips for a weekend that Kevin is able to snag a Monday off from work.

One definite trip will be to Scotland in May for the freggin Whisky Festival!!! WhooopWhoop!!

Little slower

It's odd that at times life over here seems to be further along than life in the states - but at others, not a chance. For instance, right now I'm watching the Wonder Years?! The TV shows over here are crap not that Wonder Years is but... our cable package is. Like Kevin mentioned we're trying to adjust that. It's Monday again and we spent the last part of our weekend grocery shopping and relaxing - although we did manage a walk along Walney Point. It rained/hailed the majority of the walk - but the views were still pretty amazing. The beaches here during high tide are normal - but during low tide Kevin says the beach goes out forever before reaching water. Walney Point faces west to the Irish Sea and we've heard that the sunsets are pretty incredible...just need a sunny evening. Played an hour or two of rummy last night :) Safe to say I kicked Kevin's butt!!!

Saw pics of Jimmy's 30th birthday bash this morning - missin all of our friends :/

A market day!!

A questionable day today. In typical fashion the weathermen predicted clouds and hail, but we decided how is that different than any other day - turns out it was gorgeous, go figure. Off we went to explore Ulverston and beyond!! We hit the road with no plan other than to find some markets and see some sights. First stop - Ulverston Market. A whole lot of everything from fresh fish to rugs and boots. Lunchtime at Farmer's Arms brought a nice spread of calamari, ham & celery soup, sides of chips and mushrooms, a steak sandwich and a tuna melt. 29 Pounds financially and 50 pounds in our bellies later off we went for more exploring. We picked out a nice rump steak from the butcher and some garlic parsley cheese for dinner and decided Kendal was close enough to go see. Along the way Sizergh Castle presented itself just off the main road. Unfortunately it was closed but proved valuable by providing local visitors brochures and some noisy sheep. The views along the way to Kendal were breathtaking - snow capped mountains, grazing sheep, green fields and stone houses built long before America was discovered. Yet another market found in Kendal's town center, this one was much more than just a market. Shopping galore!!! Our bellies were too full to try and fit into anything, but window shopping was nice. We found the World Famous Chocolate House built in 1657. The door and stairs were about as wide as my left leg, but we managed to go inside and browse the famous goods. Kendal had the most shopping we've seen thus far and we left with some tea and a hat Erin isn't sure she likes. I told her so. We made it back just in time to watch our first futbol match on the tele. Manchester United versus Tottenham. We are trying to add some more channels to our setup so we can see more of the world's best sport.

Curry Night

Back in the states we used to do "Hump Nights" at Hot Rods with everyone - so it only seemed natural to have a "Hump Night" in England. The destination: The Railway. Only differences, now it's on Thursday & instead of Wings, Beer & Atmosphere we get Curry, Pints and Accents. The deal is one of 12 Curry dishes and a choice of a drink: a pint, a mix drink, soda or coffee all for 5 pound (about $8). It was delish! We also attempted an appetizer - Kevin decided on Lamb Kabobs....sounds safe enough, we like kabobs. Naturally, the appetizer hit our table about 5mins after our entrees did. And as soon as she placed our kabobs on the table I think I threw up a little in my mouth. The "kabobs" were two logs of brown/gray'ness thrown on a white plate. Ryan, a co-worker of Kevin's who came with, made several associations to cat poop. Nonetheless, being the trooper he is - Kevin tasted it. He mentioned, after the fact, that he probably shouldn't have gone through with the taste after cutting into it took a little bit of elbow grease. I covered the logs with my napkin and pushed them aside. No more lamb kabobs for us. We walk everywhere and of course as we're opening the door to leave there is a steady downpour..... Kevin suggested powerwalking home. So we did....But as I pointed out to Kevin, I think I have the advantage when it comes to powerwalking - my hips act like propellers when I get walkin fast.
